Rocky Point’s Loop Corkscrew holds a special place in every Rhode Island thrill-seeker’s heart. In operation from 1984 to 1995, the Corkscrew now only lives in our memories… or so we thought.
In 1996, shortly after Rocky Point’s closing, Wild Waves Theme Park in Washington bought the ride for a reported $805,000. After a subtle makeover, the Corkscrew goes by a new name: The Wild Thing.
From Wild Waves’ website:
Once you leave the station, prepare for WILD fun from start to finish! You’ll begin your ride with a relaxing climb that takes you high above the park. Take a deep breath when you get to the top – the peaceful view won’t last for long. You’ll soon be plummeting down towards a loop-de-loop that will flip you completely upside down! If that doesn’t take your breath away, you’ll be sent flying into two corkscrews before being brought back to the station.
