Congratulations to this week’s Showcase Cinemas High School Team of the Week: Moses Brown Girls Basketball!

The girls basketball team has three type 1 diabetics, which is extremely rare but also extremely awesome.
Myself, being one of the diabetics, along with my co-captain, Belle Channell, and a freshman international student from China, Lucy.
The entire team is extremely supportive and constantly curious about how we manage the disease. It’s a lifestyle to us! A senior with type 1 diabetes who played on the team graduated last year, but last year was the first time we held a fundraiser game for type 1 and raised $4000! We donated all the money to Camp Surefire, an overnight camp for type 1 diabetics, where Belle Channell has attended since she was diagnosed.
Our story was featured in the Providence Journal and we were even on the Dan Yorke show! The experience was very rewarding to us and informing to our local community, so we are hosting the fundraiser again on Saturday, January 30th at 5:00pm. Local businesses are donating food to be sold, and there will be door prizes too.
We hope to raise more money this year so we can send even more kids to Camp Surefire. Belle, Lucy, and I know how valuable it is to be able to talk to someone who truly understands your diabetes!
Our team is so supportive and we are so excited for the event! AND we are undefeated!
